Sadat X did an Interview with IndieSent Exposure, where he discusses the 411 with B-High. What follows is an abbreviated transcript of that interview.
SX:Peace, what's goin on, this is Sadat X, you know what I'm sayin, just got the joint in my hand gettin ready to do my thing.
BH:What brings you to IndieSent Exposure today?
SX:hey man, you know, there's a little function going on, and I'm here, ready to answer any questions, anything ya need to know, about Sadat X, Brand Nubian anything like that
BH:Well, since you brought it up, let's go back to the beginning and um, for those who been sleeping for awhile, or think you just came out here, basically you started with Brand Nubian in what year?
SX:Um man, this was about.., actually when we first started this was like 88, you know what I'm saying 88, 89 we did the album and it SAT for a year, before it even came out, it sat for a year, then it came out, then you know,as everyone knows,Grand Puba left the group, and um, me and Jamal we continued on, it was no beef, it's no beef, we still doing the reunion album right now, all three of us, um, that's what he chose to do at that time, and ah, me and Jamal did two (2) albums, and now I'm doing my own album, "Wild Cowboys"
BH:So basically, I read a little bit in your bio that you're still Brand Nubian at heart..
SX: No Doubt
BH:You still have love for Brand Nubian
SX:That's my base and my foundation
BH:Sort of like Wise Intelligence (Of Poor Richeous Teachers) time to branch out a little bit
SX: No Doubt
BH:Okay, so let's talk about the new album.
SX:Okay, the new album is called Wild Cowboys on Loud records, no doubt, and you know, my peoples helped me out alot with it, I had a lotta help from like, diggin in the crates crew, thats OG, Diamond D, Buckwild, Showbiz, The Beat Minerz, Pete Rock, Father Time, ya know everybody helped out, and let me do this.
BH:Okay so ah,what, what's, you know, what's with this Cowboys and Hip Hop nowadays...
SX:(Takes Toke)I means it's, you know, we did it from a lot of things, cause you know, a lot of us, our favorite football squad is the Cowboys, Dallas, also the area I grew up wit, you know there is a lotta Spanish kids over there, you know, they was um, a lot of em is locked down in jail now, they was called Wild Cowboys too, this is Amsterdam area, Audubon and Broadway like that, you know, so we just combined you know, all those elements, and came up with Wild Cowboys.
BH:Okay, so what is the new video called?
SX:The new video is called "Hang Em High" and that was done by Joseph Kahn, we did it in um,L.A. in um, in the soundstage in L.A. that they used for actually for like,Good Bad & The Ugly, Clint Eastwood joints, we did it out there, something different, you know what I'm saying, just to change up the pace for a minute....That's all
BH: Okay so let's peep that then we'll come back and catch up...
SX:No Doubt
BH: So this is IndieSent Exposure we'll be right back....
SX:All Right
(Goes to Video)
BH:Ok, welcome back to IndieSent, That was the new joint from Sadat X,
SX:No Doubt
BH:Loud Records representing no doubt, So um..what was, you know, I understand, that there was a little bit of a shift for people, from Brand Nubian to the Sadat X album, how did that come about?
SX:Well you know basically, I wasn't satisfied on Elektra Records after awhile, you know, and I felt at this point in time, being that I had did, done this for this many years, that, you know, that it was a time for me to branch out just for a minute, you know, to see what I could do in a Solo endeavor, so, through my contract with my lawyer, I was able to get out of it and um, sign with Loud Records, the reunion album though is still gonna be done on Elektra though.
BH:But also there's a different, sort of like a harder, more street style so to speak..
SX:yeah, basically, you know, I felt the last album, we kinda strayed away, just a little bit, from what was comfortable for myself, so you know, this album, you know, I got with my people, went back to the lab, went back to the basement and we just cranked it out you know, like how we used to do, you know I'm saying, before there was an emphasis on wax and we was just making jams just to please ourselves.
BH:okay so lets go into a little bit, uh, the Lord Finesse uh, joint ya did
SX:Okay...
BH:Um, we'll look into that, but before we do, just give us the 411 behind that.
SX:Aiight, actually, well, you know, Lord Finesse, that's diggin in the crates , you know, that's my man, I known him for like ten (10) years, you know, so, whenever he needs something to be done by us, we definitely come to help him, you know, it was my man, Large Professor was on there also, and um, it's good to get down with Paul, it's always a blessing to get down with Grand Puba, and 'Ness is my man as I said, so we just got down together and knocked it down!
BH:well, ah, you know what, lets go into the Large Professor too, so we'll see ah, Lord Finesse and ah, Mad Scientist
SX:Okay, no doubt
BH:and be back on IndieSent.. One last time
(Out of Video's)
BH:Okay, welcome back once again, to IndieSent Exposure, Sadat X in the house and that of course, was Lord Finesse, and um, another one of the people who dropped by, we were here the other day we were smokin a little bit with Large Professor as well
SX:Oh yeah, no doubt
BH:So what do you got in the future?
SX:Right now, in the future, I'm um, working with my man Shawn Black, he's featured on the album, so we gettin ready to get his stuff together, also we concentrating on the reunion album, and also I got my peoples Chuck and Tec, Bronx Desperadoes, they gettin ready to come through so we tryin to just take care of family right now.
BH:So when do you think you'll be doin the Reunion album?
SX:Um, well, we doin the reunion album RIGHT NOW! Actually, Jamal and Puba's in the studio RIGHT NOW as I'm speaking, and um we did two.., we did Three (3) songs actually so far, so we hopin to finish that .... have it out by around Christmas time.
BH:Okay, so let's ah, I know you went through this quickly, but again, let's go through some of the producers on the....
SX:Okay
BH:New Album...Reasons people need to go out there and pick up this joint.
SX:Aiight, some of the producers on the album, and they all looked out for me, was um, Diamond D, OG, Buckwild, The BeatMinerz, Pete Rock, Alamo, Father Time, Minnesota
BH: So you got everybody coming out and showin you, a little bit of love
SX:Definitely, took a little bit o somethin from everybody
BH: Okay so again, you thinkin about doin anything live around....
SX:Well...
BH:..or are you workin so hard in the studio it's tough to get out?
