Yohance Fuller writes: I want the 411 on the beef between Canibus and LL Cool J. Where did all of that tension come from?

I thought those two were cool with each other, because they did a track together on LL's album. What's the deal?"

Well, it all started on the "4,3,2,1" joint off of LL's "Phenomenon" CD. The original rhyme from Canibus made reference to "borrowing" the mic tattooed on LL's arm and rocking it. According to Canibus, this was not meant as a dis, it was a show of respect. LL took offense anyway and rewrote his verse on "4,3,2,1" to dis Canibus back. He told Canibus to either re-write his rhyme or he would take him off the record. Canibus chose to rewrite his rhyme and thought the whole thing was squashed, but LL kept his verse dissing Canibus.

When you hear LL refer to the mic on his arm, i.e. "this symbol on my arm is off limits to challengers," and "you don't wanna borrow that, you wanna idolize..." that's directed toward Canibus. Canibus dissed back extremely hard with the b-side to "How We Roll," called "2nd Round Knockout."

Now LL is in the studio with DJ Premier as we speak making another dis record in response to "2nd Round Knockout." (end EUR)

Okay, B-high here again...... On this week's IndieSent Exposure/Phatt Traxx and Next Weeks Grand Finale, we are running an interview segment, taped Wed, Mar 25, 1988 with Gangstarr.... Guru & Primo talked about all the rumours surfacing about this "battle" and Primo said, LL has NOT CALLED!!! They are NOT in the studio!! Primo would LOVE to give LL a beat but as of that day!! (2 days ago!) LL had not called....... Then to put more fire to the flame DJ Premier did say that he IS working again with Canibus on a new beat!!.....Guru stuck HIS 2 cents in that HE THINKS LL is going with Dre for the beats!! NOT the current joint (zoom)LL and Dre are working on BUT a new one......

BUT, Both did say, DONT SLEEP on LL! Never sleep on an original cat!!!!............

Now, Killa S from Club Shaolin forwarded me an email that "I" am gonna let have the last word (for NOW!) Bigg Up to Panther 69!

What's up with this cannabus deal ? Is something really going down with him and LL ? Or maybe just some sort of publicity stunt to shake the rap world..... No matter what anyone thinks .. LL has been on the scene, rocked, rumbled, before many of his age. & no matter what I may think of him personally ( proud of the brother ), he must by all means be respected in the industry.......I think that after the Biggie incident we should attempt to praise our brothers and sisters who have overcome the restraints of city life to become successful.....Why must it be difficult to congradulate our people ?

Why must the slave master teachings be constantly at our breaths ? Should we go into the year 2000 still calIing eachother ( MY NIGGA) with the excuse that it's verbal way for us to show affection ? We cannot continue to be the most destuctive, racist, egotistical, dissrespective, violent to our own race and expect other races to not violate us as well.I hope my three daughters will never grow up to be dissrespected by their own people.

Peace , Happiness , and Long Life to all my People

PART 3

LL Speaks on Canibus Fued

BY: MATT CONAWAY

4-13: This past weekend, LL Cool J was on Hot 97 (NY) talking with Funkmaster Flex about the situation between Canibus and himself. LL spoke on how the fued developed and what he

thought of Canibus's diss song and accompying video "2nd Round Knockout." When Flex gave LL the idea of just squashing it between him and Canibus, LL began laughing hysterically, although he was quick to add he doesn't want it ending up like the BIG/Tupac debacle. LL alsomentioned that he still needs to remain an example because he understands that kids look up to him and whatever the solution is that it has to be positive, but then again LL also went on to state "I don't lose."

Lets hope these two can keep it on the Mic where it belongs.(SORRY, I find that line just a little too patronizing for me...I mean... do we REALLY believe the opposite? that...NO, they are ignorant savages who are gonna cap eachothers ass!! I mean... GET REAL!B-High) With LL's rebuttal to Canibus completed,(Did I miss something? Completed?) and the young and very talented Canibus not giving up any ground whatsoever, this fued sounds as if it is just beginning to heat up!

PART 4

LL Strikes Back RE: Canibus Fued

BY: Johnny B-High

Okay, Let's go over this again.... I heard about the LL version goin around.....BUT I have a small problem with it......WHY would Canibus WANT LL's tattoo? Why would he ask LL if he thought it was okay? Something doesn't sound right.....

I believe this version......During the 4,3,2,1 joint on LL's Phenomenon, Canibus wrote a verse that included the Rockin the mic verse... LL wrote a reply verse, but then said NO WAY!, re-write the verse or be off the joint!! He (LL) will re-write his response verse too....(One of LL's version has him saying that he told Canibus, take your verse out and no-one will know I'm talking about you!!!) Well as we all know by now, that is NOT what happened!!! Canibus DID change his BUT LL left his in.....

Canibus considered it a straight up bitch nigga move and wrote 2nd Round Knockout, a well thought, well executed, battle song of true hip-hop lineage..... The ONLY problem, "I", B-High had with Canibus' rap was the Fronting like a drug free role model cause he smokes ganja line.... Coming from a person who calls himself Canibus (pronounced like the ganja), who, my 1st memory of canibus was at a Group Home Artist - A+'s press day.... A+ and Canibus sat around counting all the Blunt smoking references in the Lost Boyz song about the shorty who died....(SORRY, Brain Lock, forget the name right now..Renee(Spliff kicked in)).... Well.....that's a personal point!! The joint kicked ass and took no prisoners........

LL's reaction was guarded and changing daily.... But like he said.....He couldn't hide from it..... His Moms and Wife both heard it and peeps in NYC were ALWAYZ asking him about it.... Ignoring it was no longer an option...... BUT during all the speculation time a couple things come to mind........1) LL said the 3rd verse was just unnecessary, too hard, too much etc.... and 2)Tyson... He considered Mike a TRUE FRIEND and it hurt that Mike did it like that.......

YET, when LL comes back..... His entire joint is 10times harder, and maybe unnecessary as Canibus' 3rd verse!! He gets down, dirty, raw, and angry.... And his TRUE FRIEND.....well, he showed that he (LL) has no capacity for compassion!! Ass Cheeks still black and Blue, Convicted rapist and Ear Biter are some of the terms he saves for his TRUE FRIEND!!!!

When I first heard the joint in a club in a full battle mix, I felt it..... and I said so on IndieSent Exposure......People who feel LL agreed, but a lot didn't!! And it got me to thinking.... and listening......and listening......and thinking......

So here it is, my final thoughts........ Canibus wins HANDS DOWN!!! Just like he says in 2nd Round Knockout...."Studied My Rhyme....." and no doubt LL's comeback is just that... NO CREATIVITY......Studied and wrote a point by point comeback!! Now I still DO stick by my wordz on IndieSent.....Canibus will have to come back 10times harder, only cause LL's percieved status/stature in the industry! BUT, he could alwayz flip the script and say, Screw It, I WON, unless he (LL) comes back with something that isnt ingested and re-gurgitated I can't be bothered.........

Either way, Hip-Hop benefited from the 1998 Battle...... Canibus proved he can.... and (sorry LL), WILL be around for awhile.......LL was gonna retire but found a new reason to get the juices flowing......people understand that a GREAT rapper did in fact die on March 9th(and rediscovering his music).... while Onyx and others can say the Greatest rapper is still alive (in them!)

Peace Out all......B-High
